01/ Overview
The route
This stage is rich in history, including the stately Vuippens with its castle and gardens, the isle of Ogoz and its vestiges of mediaeval life. Along the shore, you can enjoy bathing, water sports or fine food, before returning to Rossens along the path that overlooks the lake and the molasse cliffs.
From the Corbières, Pont de Corbières bus stop, the trail leads into the village and soon climbs through woodland to the highest point of the hike at around 750 m. It then alternates between meadows, small patches of woodland and the houses of Vuippens. The village’s bailiff’s castle lies slightly off the route.
Beyond Vuippens, the trail follows the Gérigno for a short distance. Gently undulating, it crosses the open Fribourg countryside before re-entering the woods. The route passes the Buvette du Lac, where refreshments are available, and a little further on reaches the shore of Lac de la Gruyère, a reservoir on the Saane.
In the final third, woodland and pastures alternate once again, with views opening up across the lake in between. After a total of 17 kilometres and just under five hours, the hike ends in Rossens FR. The nearest bus stop, Rossens FR, village, is around 600 m from the actual destination.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
