01/ Overview

The route

A trail loops and twists its way across the meadowland below the ski lift in the small skiing area of Rossberg. The setting: the Arnist and its neighbouring peaks, with the Bäderhorn towering majestically in the background.

The starting point on the Rossberg above Oberwil is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Oberwil i.S., Heidenweidli, is around two kilometres away. From here, the four-kilometre loop leads across open meadows and pastures.

The trail runs through the expansive terrain in gentle ups and downs. Its lowest point, at around 1,120 m, comes roughly halfway along the route, after which it climbs gradually. Shortly before the finish, the loop reaches its highest point near Puntel at around 1,150 m and returns to the Rossberg.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
