01/ Overview
The route
A sweeping circuit across meadows and through the forests of the Lindenberg, with a stop for refreshments in Horben, panoramic views of the Alps and quiet villages between Luzern and Aargau.
From the Schongau, Oberschongau public transport stop, it is only a few steps to the church and the start of this approximately 18-kilometre circuit. The trail leaves the village by the pilgrimage church of St. Ulrich and climbs gently up the Lindenberg between meadows and patches of woodland. After a short unmarked section, the route once again follows the hiking trail.
At Horben, the meadows open out. The mountain inn serves meals and desserts, while the panorama board identifies the visible peaks. The views extend to the Central Swiss and Bernese Alps. Nearby stand the Chapel of St. Wendelin and Schloss Horben, once the summer residence of the monks of Muri Abbey. Shortly afterwards, the route reaches its highest point at around 850 metres.
The trail descends through the Sulzer Wald and past the Sulzer Kreuz to Müswangen. It then climbs once more along the elongated ridge of the Lindenberg. At Gasthaus Hämikerberg, the final descent begins through woodland and open meadows. After just over four and a half hours, the circuit ends back at the church in Oberschongau and the nearby bus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
