01/ Overview
The route
From Lake Hallwil, the route climbs to the open heights of the Lindenberg and leads through villages, past churches and across meadows to Aesch – a peaceful hike through the Swiss Plateau with a long final descent.
The route sets off towards Meisterschwanden from the Seehotel Delphin, not far from Lake Hallwil. The Meisterschwanden, Delphin bus stop is only a few minutes’ walk from the starting point. The trail passes through the village, by the Reformed church and onwards to Fahrwangen. Beyond the village, the houses give way to meadows and fields, while the ascent to Bettwil remains steady. There, directly beside the trail, stands the late-Baroque parish church of St Josef, which forms a preserved ensemble with the rectory and barn.
Beyond Bettwil, the hiking trail continues across the heights of the Lindenberg. Just over halfway along the route, it reaches its highest point at around 740 m. Open farmland and small villages now characterise the route via Oberschongau and Schongau to Mettmenschongau. At Rüediken, the trail passes directly by the chapel; the longer descent then begins. Between meadows and the first houses, the route rapidly loses altitude and reaches Aesch LU after just under eleven kilometres. The nearest bus stop, Aesch LU, Kreuz, is just over 300 m from the actual endpoint.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
