01/ Overview
The route
Towards Grasburg , the largest castle ruin of the canton, over the Harrissteg and up until the village of Albligen. Admire the view of the Alps, the Jura and the Mittelland. Descend in the woody gorge of the Sense and enjoy a well-deserved swim or a BBQ amidst the natural alluvial landscape.
The hike begins at Schwarzenburg railway station and leaves the village on a yellow-marked hiking trail. Open meadows and stretches of woodland soon begin to alternate. After around two kilometres, the Grasburg ruins stand almost directly on the route. The remains of the rock castle perch on a sandstone outcrop and form the most striking feature of the first section.
The trail continues via Harris to Albligen. It then climbs through the open, rolling countryside towards Oberholz. Near Höhi, the highest point is reached at around 800 m. From here, the route is mostly downhill, alternating between meadows and woodland as it descends to Schwarzwasserbrücke. Towards the end, the Riedburg ruins lie slightly off the route in the forest. After a total of twelve kilometres and just over three hours, the hike ends at Schwarzwasserbrücke; the railway station is right by the finish.

Bulingen - Hängebrüggli
From 9 Dec 2025 – Until 30 Sept 2026
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
