Senda Alp da Munt–Alp Champatsch

Bathed in sunshine the panoramic high route leads through the isolated and snow-clad landscape above the Val Müstair. Highlights: Alp Champatsch, whose original buildings now stand in the Swiss Open-Air Museum in Ballenberg, and the little village of Lü, claimed to be the darkest place in Switzerland.

From the Tschierv, Talstation Minschuns bus stop, the winter hike begins at Alp da Munt. The route initially climbs through open terrain. With around 190 metres of ascent, the climb is manageable, though it reaches an elevation of 2,290 m. This highest point comes after just under 3 km, near Minschuns. From there, the considerably longer descent towards Lü begins.

The route then turns downhill, losing around 350 metres in elevation over the remaining little more than 4 km. Open slopes initially dominate the landscape before the winter trail enters the forest. The houses of Lü eventually come into view during the long descent. The village’s Reformed church stands a little way off the route and is a place of worship protected at cantonal level. The route continues through the village to the finish at the Lü, cumün bus stop, just a few steps from the end point.
