Senda Munt d'Ardez

This atmospheric winter hike ascends through snow-covered forests and up open slopes to the remote alm settlement of Munt d’Ardez. It forms a peaceful link between two originally Engadin villages: Guarda and Ardez.

From the Guarda, cumün bus stop, it is only a few steps to the start of the winter hike. The trail begins among the houses of Guarda and soon leads to the Alte Mühle, which stands directly on the route. It then crosses open terrain to Bos-cha, with the ascent remaining steady at first.

Above the hamlet, open slopes alternate with stretches of woodland. Around halfway along, the route reaches its highest point at Muot da l’Hom, at just under 1,900 m. From here, it descends markedly, continuing downhill for some distance towards Ardez.

Towards the end, the first houses of Ardez come into view. Slightly off the route, Casté Steinsberg rises on a rocky outcrop, an early medieval complex with a curtain wall and a church within the castle grounds. The final metres lead into the village and to the destination; Ardez railway station is only around 80 m away.
