01/ Overview
The route
Easy and quiet winter hike between Susch and Lavin, two villages in the Lower Engadin. The path climbs gently through the forest to a clearing. At the end, it crosses open terrain and ultimately the Inn River on the way to the destination.
The starting point at Susch, Surpunt is somewhat removed from public transport; the nearest stop, Susch, is around 400 m away. From Surpunt, the signposted winter hiking trail initially climbs through the forest. Over the first few kilometres, the route gains around 150 metres in elevation and, after less than two kilometres, reaches its highest point at just over 1,550 m near Mot Nair.
The forest then opens out into meadows and pastures. The trail now leads mainly downhill towards Lavin, losing around 180 metres in elevation by the destination. After a total of around four kilometres, the first houses of Lavin come into view. The final section leads to Plans, where the winter hike ends after just over an hour. The Lavin, Plazza Gronda stop is around 300 m from the destination.
