01/ Overview
The route
What space. What light. What joy! The La Plaiv winter hiking trail is one of the most beautiful trails in the Engadin. Your gaze wanders across the wide open valley as the Inn river rushes past and skiers weave their way down the slopes above Zuoz.
From the La Punt Chamues-ch, Abzw Albula bus stop, the winter hike initially leads through the twin village towards Madulain. In the village, the Reformed church stands out with its onion dome, unusual for the Engadin, while the Ruina da Guardaval rises above. Beyond Madulain, houses alternate with wide, open expanses; Zuoz is soon reached.
From there, the route continues to S-chanf. The settlements now recede, giving way to meadows and pastures interspersed with wooded sections. The highest point follows after S-chanf at around 1,740 m.
Descending gently, the winter route leads through forest and open terrain to Chapella. From there, only the final stretch to Cinuos-chel remains, where the approximately 13-kilometre tour ends after just under four hours. Cinuos-chel-Brail station is just under 100 m from the finish.
