St. Moritz-Maloja-Seenweg

The region of Engadin St. Moritz owes much of its world-famous beauty to its unique lake plateau. And there is certainly something particularly poetic about a winter hike across these three frozen lakes.

From the St. Moritz Bad, Via San Gian bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point by the Signal cable car. The winter hike initially climbs gently, reaching its highest point at around 1,810 m near Lej Marsch. The route then continues to Sêla and on to Lej da Champfèr.

After the Surlej bridge, Lej da Silvaplauna, the middle of the three lakes on the Upper Engadin lake plateau, takes centre stage. Open expanses and the broad sweep of the lake now define the scenery. With barely any significant climbs, the trail continues via Crotschas and the small settlements near Sils Maria. Sils im Engadin is reached after just over three hours.

Shortly afterwards, the route runs directly beside Lej da Segl. The long final stage follows the shore towards Capolago, with the lake remaining the defining companion. After around 17 km and just over five hours, the winter hike ends in Maloja, a few steps from the Maloja, Posta bus stop.
