01/ Overview
The route
The well-constructed trail passes five lakes in the Engadine region and offers views of bare, rugged slopes. It continues all the way to St. Moritz, alternating between coniferous forests, sleepy holiday resorts and now and then it passes a boat moored in the water. The Senda Segantini highlights some spots associated with the artist who painted the pristine landscape here until 1899.
From the Maloja, Posta stop, the mountain trail, marked white-red-white throughout, leads out of the village. Sections of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures. Before Isola, the route reaches the shore of Lej da Segl, the south-westernmost lake of the Upper Engadin lake plateau.
The route continues through Sils Maria, where the Fedacla runs alongside the trail for a short distance. Forest and open terrain then once again characterise the long section through the valley. At Surlej, the route reaches Lej da Silvaplauna, the middle of the three Upper Engadin lakes, and follows its shore to Silvaplana.
Via Champfèr, the mountain trail climbs gently once more towards the end. Shortly before St. Moritz Bad, the highest point of the hike is reached at just under 1,900 metres. The route then descends through the built-up area, crosses St. Moritz and ends in Pontresina after a little over five hours.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
