Senda Leg Columban

This circular hike sets off from Bivio, initially climbing up to the Leg Columban mountain lake. At “Uf da Flüe”, the route’s highest point, you will be treated to a dreamy view into the Averstal valley and out to Juf, the highest permanently inhabited residential area in Europe. Other little lakes dot the way down on the “Steinmännliweg” via Stallerberg back to Bivio.

The roughly 15-kilometre circuit begins at the Bivio, posta bus stop. The mountain trail quickly leaves the village behind and climbs through open meadows and pastures. As it gains altitude, the terrain becomes increasingly barren, with rock and scree characterising the route to Fuorcla de la Valletta. The final ascent then leads to the highest point near Uf den Flue at just under 2,800 m. This completes the long main climb.

Beyond the ridge, the circuit continues towards Stallerberg. From the pass, the trail sweeps back towards Bivio in a wide arc. The rocky terrain gradually gives way to open pastures again, and the village slowly draws closer during the long descent. After just under six hours, the hike ends back in Bivio, only a few steps from the bus stop. The roughly 1,100 metres of ascent and the mountain trail, marked white-red-white throughout, require good fitness and sure-footedness.
