Walserweg, Stage 11/19

The long hike begins at the beautifully situated Alp Flix, passes by Mongolian yurts and takes a varied mountain trail to Alp d’Err, home to many marmots. On the Ela Pass, you’re surrounded by magnificent scenery with countless mountain peaks. The hike ends at the Chamonas d’Ela SAC hut.

The mountain hike of almost seven hours begins at the Alp Flix, Tigias Hotel bus stop. The mountain trail leads through the hamlets of Tgalucas and Cuorts, then climbs across open Alpine pastures to Falotta. Beyond the pass, the route continues through broad, open terrain and reaches a second pass at Parsettens.

Meadows and pastures now increasingly give way to scree and rock. With longer climbs and shorter counter-ascents, the trail approaches Piz Furnatsch. Shortly before Pass d’Ela, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,700 m. The pass links Val d’Err with Val Spadlatscha and runs between Piz Ela and Cotschen.

From the pass, the mountain trail descends into the upper Val Spadlatscha. The destination is Chamonas d’Ela CAS at 2,252 m, which serves as a base for tours on Piz Ela. The unattended hut has 38 dormitory places; the old Ela hut stands about five minutes’ walk farther down. The nearest public transport stop, Bergün/Bravuogn, posta, is just over four kilometres from the hut.
