ViaSett, Stage 5/6

The Septimer Pass has been used since as far back as the Romans and netted the Bishop of Chur a great deal of wealth. Setting off from the Julier Pass road at Bivio, the trail dives into a serene mountainous landscape. Once you arrive in the Val Bregaglia, you will notice the cultural influence of nearby Italy.

From the Bivio, posta bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point. At the Reformed church, the mountain trail leaves the houses behind and climbs southwards through open meadows and Alpine pastures. After just under two hours, it reaches the highest point at Pass da Sett, at around 2,310 m. The pass links Oberhalbstein with Bergell and separates the Oberhalbstein Alps from the Albula Alps.

Beyond the top of the pass, the long descent begins. At first, the open terrain remains expansive, then the forest draws closer. The mountain trail, marked throughout in white-red-white, descends to Casaccia, where the church of San Giovanni and the Ristorantino Bar Sett lie directly on the route.

Below Casaccia, the descent continues down the valley. The trail passes close to Lago di Löbbia and reaches Pranzaira. Over the final few kilometres, stretches of forest and the first houses lead to Vicosoprano. The route ends at the Reformed church of S. Trinità; the Vicosoprano, Helvetia bus stop is around 150 m away.
