01/ Overview

The route

A short sculpture-themed trail above St-Ursanne: it climbs to the castle ruins and leads through woodland and open meadows before returning to the houses of the small town.

The short sculpture-themed trail in St-Ursanne begins near the St-Ursanne, Pont St-Jean/ville bus stop. Between the houses, the hiking trail soon starts to climb. After a few minutes, it enters the woods and passes close to the Ruines du Château de Sainte Ursanne. The sculptures set the theme for this steep opening section; the town is soon left behind beneath the trees.

Shortly afterwards, the route reaches its highest point at around 530 m. The surroundings now alternate between woodland, open meadows and occasional rocky sections. The trail loses some elevation along the way but continues without any lengthy detours across the slopes above St-Ursanne. In the final section, the first houses come back into view. After a total of just over one kilometre and around 40 minutes, the route ends directly at St-Ursanne bus stop.

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
