01/ Overview

The route

The hiking trail offers an original way to discover the most surprising things the Olympic capital holds in store in terms of green spaces, panoramic views, places to enjoy the water and tourist attractions. Away from the traffic, you can enjoy the city's tranquillity and natural surroundings.

Near the Ouchy-Olympique stop, the roughly five-hour hike begins on the shores of Lake Geneva. The route initially follows the lakeshore before turning towards Lausanne’s higher-lying neighbourhoods. Between houses, parks and open meadows, it climbs steadily, revealing a surprisingly green side of the city.

Just over halfway along the 19-kilometre route, the trail enters the Bois Mermet. The forest accompanies the final part of the ascent. Near Plamont, the circuit reaches its highest point at around 665 m. The total ascent is approximately 460 metres.

The route then heads downhill again, following the Vuachère for several kilometres. The stream provides a peaceful contrast to the surrounding city neighbourhoods. The lakeshore is reached again at the neo-Gothic ruin of Tour Haldimand. Passing the Château d’Ouchy, the circuit ends where it began, just a few steps from the Ouchy-Olympique stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
