01/ Overview

The route

A short panoramic circuit across the open Jura heights near Pleigne. Gentle elevation changes, expansive meadows and a long section away from the marked hiking trail network characterise the route.

The Sentier panoramique de Pleigne begins in the Jura village of Pleigne. Designed as a panoramic themed trail, the circuit of just under six kilometres soon leaves the houses behind. Open meadows and pastures dominate the scenery, while the trail climbs only gently. For long stretches, the route runs away from the marked hiking trail network and therefore requires some care with navigation. The total ascent is only around 90 metres.

Around halfway, the circuit reaches its highest point at approximately 840 m near Haute Aibaiteuse. From there, the route descends almost imperceptibly back towards Pleigne. At the first houses, the open Jura landscape gives way to the village once more; the church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul stands slightly off the route. After around an hour and a half, the circuit ends back at the starting point in Pleigne.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
