01/ Overview
The route
A peaceful circuit on the outskirts of Lucerne: the path follows the protected shore of the Rotsee, skirts the Schachewald and passes swimming spots, picnic meadows and plenty of places close to the water.
From the Weggismatt bus stop, the route initially descends to the Rotsee, a narrow lake around two and a half kilometres long on the northern outskirts of Lucerne. Its protected shores offer a surprisingly peaceful contrast to the nearby neighbourhoods. The route soon runs directly beside the water, passing the rowing centre and the Rotsee ferry landing. Benches and barbecue sites are dotted along the way, while the rowing centre also has a playground and picnic meadow.
At the far end of the lake, the path passes through the Schachewald. The root-covered trail can be slippery when wet; the paved Kaspar-Kopp-Strasse provides an alternative. Woodland, open stretches of shoreline and the first houses then alternate. The route follows the Rotseeweg to the Rotseebadi and continues to the SeehĂĽsli, directly beside the path. Shortly afterwards, the circuit of just over seven kilometres ends back at Weggismatt.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
