With its cycle of paintings, the Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) in Luzern campaigned for Catholicism and pious moral conduct. A shady riverside path along the Emmen takes you to Werthenstein Monastery, majestic on a cliff just outside the village.

From Bahnhofquai in Luzern, this roughly 19-kilometre hike initially leads to the shore of Lake Lucerne. It passes through the city and by the Jesuitenkirche before leaving the houses behind and climbing towards Sonnenberg. In the forest, the route reaches its highest point at just over 640 metres.

At Renggloch, the rural section of this five-hour-plus hike begins. Stretches of woodland alternate with open meadows and pastures, interspersed with isolated farms and small settlements. After passing the church of St. Jost, the hiking trail continues through the Luzern countryside in gentle undulations. One short section does not follow a marked hiking trail.

Later, the small Schwellisee lies directly beside the route. From there, the trail leads through the scattered settlements near Ennigen and continues to Werthenstein. Shortly before the destination, it passes the pilgrimage church of Unsere Liebe Frau. The Werthenstein, Dorf bus stop is only a few steps from the endpoint.
