01/ Overview
The route
A short, largely accessible walk from one boat landing to another: between Weggis and Hertenstein, the route alternates between lakeside promenade, quiet residential stretches and open meadows, with no significant climbs.
From the Weggis boat landing, the walk initially leads through the Unterdorf district. Passing the Allerheiligenkapelle, it continues towards Hertenstein along a level, well-maintained path. Lakeside promenade and pavement alternate, while benches along the way offer opportunities for a rest.
The route stays close to Lake Lucerne, whose branching bays lie amid the Alpine foothills. Beyond the houses of Weggis, meadows open up from time to time before further small residential stretches follow. There are hardly any significant climbs: around halfway, the path reaches its highest point at approximately 450 m before descending gently towards the lake.
On the Hertenstein peninsula, the houses draw closer together again. Shortly before the destination is Café Vienna, which serves Swiss and Austrian specialities. A few steps further on, the approximately 2.8-kilometre walk ends at the Hertenstein boat landing, directly on the shore of Lake Lucerne. From here, the boat departs for the return journey.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
