01/ Overview
The route
A long pass hike from Uri to Engelberg: across alpine pastures and rocky heights to the Surenenpass, then past chapels and the Stäuberfall down into the Engelberg valley.
The Attinghausen–Brüsti cable car takes hikers to the starting point at the Brüsti stop. From here, the mountain path climbs across open pastures to Nossenboden and Alp Grat, with its small alpine inn. It continues over the Geissrüggen, with views of the Angistock, into increasingly rocky terrain; rockfall can be expected near the Brunnistock.
Snowfields may remain at Langschnee even in summer. Shortly afterwards, the route reaches its highest point at the Surenenpass, at around 2,270 m. The pass in the Urner Alps is one of the region’s alpine pack trails. The long descent leads across Blackenalp to the Chapel of St Antonius and St Wendelin, then continues to the Stäuberfall. Between alpine pastures and forest, the path now steadily loses elevation.
The route continues via Stäfeli and Herrenrütti down the valley. Towards the end, the path widens and passes the Maria im Holz chapel before reaching the first houses of Engelberg. A little later, it passes the abbey church and ends near the Engelberg, Kurpark bus stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
