ViaSuworow, Stage 5/11

At the Urnersee lake, Suvorov was unable to proceed any further as the French had seized all boats. So the ViaSuworow follows the route of the Russians from Altdorf into the Schächental valley, where cobbled cattle tracks bordered by drystone walling lead to Biel-Chinzig.

From the Altdorf UR, Telldenkmal stop, the route leads out of the village centre and immediately heads towards the mountainside. It continues via Hartolfingen to Bürglen, passing directly by the Antonius-Kapelle. The houses gradually fall behind, and the long ascent continues between stretches of woodland and open meadows.

At Trudelingen, just under half the distance has been covered. Higher up, the hiking trail becomes a mountain path. It passes Grossacherberg and continues to gain elevation without any prolonged intervening descent. With each section, the settled area recedes further into the distance; pastures and open slopes now dominate the landscape.

After around ten kilometres and a good four and a half hours, the hike ends in Biel-Chinzig. The destination, at around 1,620 m, is also the highest point of the hike. In total, some 1,300 metres of ascent have been completed. The Biel (Kinzig) stop is just a few steps from the end of the route.
