Weg der Schweiz, Stage 3/4

The path runs in and along the vertical rock face above Lake Uri. The rock arches as well as the numerous steps and wooden walkways demonstrate the attention to detail. Tell’s Chapel, the largest glockenspiel in Switzerland, and a wonderful mountain panorama lend further charm to the hike.

From Flüelen railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the village and out to Gruonen. It then climbs between open meadows and woodland above Lake Lucerne. The seven-kilometre route involves around 300 metres of ascent and can be completed in just over two hours. Roughly halfway along, the route reaches its highest point near Blutt Stöckli at around 630 m. At the Axengalerie, the view opens out across the lake.

The path then descends through the forest to the lakeshore. Tellskapelle stands directly by the water at Tellsplatte, where, according to legend, Wilhelm Tell leapt from the boat of the bailiff Gessler. This spot provides a striking final highlight before the hiking trail leads away from the lake once more. The route continues gently up and down through woodland and open terrain to Sisikon. The railway station is just a few steps from the end of the hike.
