01/ Overview
The route
A short, steep hut circuit from Sustenbrüggli to Sustlihütte SAC: ascending over alpine pastures and rocky terrain, then returning along the Sustlibach into the Meiental.
From the Meien, Sustenbrüggli PostBus stop, the mountain path begins climbing without much of a warm-up. It ascends briskly through open alpine pastures via Chli Sustli; higher up, rock and scree become more prominent. Around 340 metres of elevation are gained in just over one kilometre. Despite the short distance, the brief ascent therefore requires a certain amount of stamina.
Near Böschenstöckli, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,250 m. Sustlihütte SAC stands just a few steps farther on. The mountain hut belonging to the Rossberg Section of the SAC lies above the Meiental at 2,257 m and makes an ideal place for a break, with uninterrupted views across the valley’s stark surroundings.
The mountain path then leads back down into the valley. On the descent, the Sustlibach comes into view; its rest areas offer another opportunity for a pause before the final steeper section. The route descends across open terrain to Sustenbrüggli, where the short circuit ends back at the PostBus stop after around an hour and a half.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
