Thurweg, Stage 5/8

The fifth stage of the Thurweg trail begins in the small town of Bischofszell, also known as the town of roses. The hike runs through diverse landscapes, including small towns and villages, pastures and wooded sections, following the Thur river all the way. The destination for this stage is in Weinfelden.

From the Bischofszell Stadt stop, the route leads through the town, past St John’s Church and Bischofszell Castle. The starting point is also the highest point on the route, at around 500 m. Before long, views open up over the confluence of the Sitter and the Thur.

The route then continues through open meadows, fields and small settlements. With no major climbs, it passes through Muggensturm and Buch on the way to Schönenberg an der Thur and Kradolf. Stretches of woodland provide occasional variety before the expansive cultivated landscape of Thurgau takes over once again. Near Istighofen, the route follows the Rütibach for a short distance; a little later, the hiking trail passes close to the Istighofer Weiher.

The final section remains gentle, leading through alternating fields and built-up areas to Weinfelden. After 18 km and just over four hours, the hike ends near Weinfelden railway station. The modest elevation changes make this a long but technically easy hike.
