01/ Overview
The route
The long-distance Trans Swiss Trail from Porrentruy to Mendrisio is one of the last great adventures in highly-developed Switzerland. A variety of landscapes, cultures and places of interest await along the 32 stages of the 488-km trail.
From Porrentruy, the long-distance trail crosses the open heights of the Jura and passes through forests to St-Ursanne, Saignelégier and Saint-Imier. The route then descends into the Swiss Plateau, crosses Cudrefin and Murten, and reaches the city of Bern via Laupen and Köniz. Farther east, villages, meadows and stretches of woodland alternate; the trail continues via Lützelflüh and Eggiwil to Schangnau and Kemmeribodenbad.
Near Sörenberg, the trail becomes more mountainous. It leads via Giswil, Sachseln and Stans to Beckenried and Seelisberg, then continues via Bauen into the Reuss valley. From Amsteg and Wassen, the mountain trail climbs steeply. In the Göschenen–Andermatt area, near Monte Prosa at around 2,100 m, lies the highest point of the entire route.
The trail reaches Airolo via Hospental, entering Ticino. A long succession of ascents and descents now follows through the villages of the Leventina to Biasca. In the final section, mountain trails lead via Giubiasco, Isone and Gola di Lago to Tesserete. After Lugano and Carona, the 510-kilometre journey ends in Mendrisio, just a few steps from the Mendrisio, Stazione stop.

Oberhalb der Reussmündung in den Urnersee verbindet der Reusssteg, eine Brücke von 38 Metern Länge auf dem Weg der Schweiz, die Gemeinden Flüelen und Seedorf. Zwei markante Bögen aus Brettschichtholz bilden das Tragwerk der Brücke. Sie sind den Witterungseinflüssen in besonderem Masse ausgesetzt und müssen nach einer Betriebsdauer von über 35 Jahren umfassend saniert werden. Während der Bauphase ist die Brücke für den Langsamverkehr gesperrt. Bitte benützen sie die Umleitung.
