Val-Meltger-Schneeschuhtrail

This snowshoeing tour shows impressively what violence avalanches can have: it leads to the Val Meltger hut, which was built twelve meters above the ground because of the snowmass. Lonely forest trails and a panorama to Mon and Stierva are further highlights of the trail.

The snowshoe tour begins on the edge of the village at the Lantsch/Lenz, Barbatschauns bus stop. The route initially climbs past Bualino and soon enters the forest. It remains wooded for long stretches, interspersed with small open areas. After the first third, the route continues to climb steadily; St. Cassian, with its small cluster of houses and chapel, lies around 250 m off the circuit.

About halfway round, the snowshoe trail reaches its highest point at just under 1,600 m. The circuit then turns back and gradually loses elevation through forest and clearings. At first the descent is long and gradual, before becoming somewhat steeper towards the end as it leads down to the first houses of Lantsch/Lenz. After around six kilometres and a little over two and a half hours, the tour finishes back at Barbatschauns.
