From the mountain hotel on the Schynige Platte, follow the ridge from Lütschinental to Lake Brienz. With a view of the famous snowy mountains of the Bernese Oberland or the lake down in the valley, you reach the foot of the Faulhorn via narrow mountain paths. The route down to the gondola station on the First is wider.

From the Schynige Platte stop, the mountain path climbs across open pastures to Daube. It then traverses the ridge in a steady succession of ascents and descents, with rocky sections around the Loucherhorn, and reaches the Güwtürli pass. The route largely remains above the valleys, following the panoramic ridge eastwards.

From Güwtürli, the path climbs across alpine pastures and scree to Berghaus Männdlenen at 2,344 m. Beyond it, the surroundings become more barren, and the long ascent leads below the Faulhorn. At around 2,620 m lies the highest point of the route; the summit itself rises away from the trail to 2,681 m. This is followed by a pronounced descent through open terrain that becomes progressively less rocky.

At Bachalpsee, the route passes directly alongside the two sections of the lake, which are separated by a natural dam. From here, it continues gently downhill on a wider hiking trail and across open slopes to First. After around 17 kilometres, the hike ends at the First (Grindelwald) stop.
