ViaJura, Stage 4/7

Wild, rocky forests, the rich vegetation of nature reserves and a fantastic panorama enrich the hike through the hilly Jura landscape. Rocky Mont Raimeux is climbed, and a path cut deep into the terrain leads steeply downhill to Moutier.

From Delémont railway station, the hiking trail leaves the town and crosses open meadows into the Jura hills. Woodland and pasture alternate before the route passes Vicques and reaches the village of Rebeuvelier. Up to this point, the route remains comparatively gentle; the long ascent to the ridge then begins.

Through forest and across open Jura pastures, the trail leads to Mont Raimeux, a 1,302-metre ridge on the border between the cantons of Jura and Bern. The highest point of the route follows shortly afterwards at around 1,290 metres, near the Pic de Grandval. After a good five hours, Restaurant Le Signal provides an opportunity for a break before the descent begins.

The trail now loses considerable elevation and leads through further stretches of forest down to Grandval. Via Belprahon, the final section continues to Moutier, where the long traverse ends directly at the railway station. At 26 kilometres, with around 1,100 metres of ascent and just under eight hours of walking, the hike requires stamina but remains on marked hiking trails throughout.
