Traditional craftsmanship, the magnificent expanses of wild hay in the Isenthal, and a superb view of the Mittelland - this is what you will see when you are on the hiking trail that links the cantons of Uri and Nidwalden as it passes by histori-cally significant scenery and transport routes.

The route starts at the Isleten boat landing on Lake Lucerne. It follows the shore only briefly before beginning the long ascent into Isenthal. Mostly on mountain paths marked in white-red-white, it leads through woodland and open meadows to Isenthal and then farther up the valley. Sankt Jakob, with its chapel, makes a distinctive intermediate stop.

Beyond the hamlet, the mountain path continues uphill to Gitschenen. The settlements are left behind, and Alpine pastures and increasingly rocky slopes now dominate the scenery. At Hinterjochli, the route reaches its highest point at just over 2,100 m. The Risetenstock rises away from the trail. This is followed by a long and at times steep descent towards Klewenalp. Near the end, the path widens again and passes the Klewenkapelle before reaching the destination at the Klewenalp stop. At around 20 kilometres, with almost 2,000 metres of ascent and a hiking time of over nine hours, this is a tour that demands stamina.
