01/ Overview
The route
A pleasant walk through the snow-bedecked larch forest between Saas-Fee and Saas-Almagell. The downhill gradient is almost always gentle, taking you past the Bodmen Forest House with its petting zoo. Ideal for families!
The winter hike begins at the Saas-Fee bus terminal at around 1,800 m, which is also the highest point on the route. The trail leads between the houses, passing close to La Cabana, then descends gently and soon enters the forest. At Waldhüs Bodmen, the village is left behind; from here, the route continues steadily downhill through the trees.
After just under half the distance, the lowest point is reached at around 1,670 m. Shortly afterwards, the first houses of Saas-Almagell appear near Restaurant Portjengrat. The route then turns uphill again. Most of the approximately 160 metres of ascent is covered in the second half.
Towards the end, the forest gives way to open meadows and pastures. After six kilometres and just over two hours, the winter hiking trail ends in the village of Saas-Almagell.
