01/ Overview
The route
Over wooded hills and open pastures, the Grenzpfad follows the cantonal border to the Napf. Sweeping views and the steep descent via Trachselegg define this high-level hike to Luthern Bad.
The high-level hike on the Grenzpfad Napfbergland begins at the Eriswil, Ahorn bus stop. Near Ahornalp, the trail winds through a mosaic of pastures and woodland. Climbing and descending steadily over several chains of hills, it passes the Aemmital Friends of Nature lodge and reaches Änzisattel. Panoramic views repeatedly open up across the Mittelland and Jura as far as the Alps.
Beyond the pass, the route leads past the Niederenzi inn and continues uphill to the Napf. At around 1,400 m, the highest point of the hike is also the highest summit in the Napfbergland; a mountain restaurant stands on the summit. The rhythm now changes markedly: the trail descends steeply via Trachselegg, passing the mountain inn of the same name.
On the final section, the trail continues to lose elevation and meets the Luthern shortly before Luthern Bad. The first houses of the village are reached by the Maria-Heilbronn pilgrimage church; a few steps further on, the hike of just under five hours ends at the Luthern Bad, Dreilindenplatz PostBus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
