01/ Overview
The route
A steep start, open pastures and the Napfbergland Border Trail characterise the hike from Luthern Dorf via panoramic Ahorn to Eriswil.
The starting point is just a few steps from the Luthern, Dorf PostBus stop. The trail soon climbs steeply towards Nesslisboden. Pastures and farm animals line the ascent alongside the farms, interspersed with varied stretches of woodland. After around four kilometres, the route reaches its highest point below Gume at 1,137 metres.
The hike continues across open terrain to the Ahorn viewpoint. Shortly afterwards, the Ahornalp mountain restaurant lies directly on the route and is a good place to take a break after the long ascent. The trail now follows the Napfbergland Border Trail, gradually losing altitude between pastures and woodland.
The final third begins at Hegen. Passing the scattered houses of Oberthalweid and Hitzenberg, the hiking trail continues downhill. After a total of around three and a half hours and just over eleven kilometres, the first houses of Eriswil are reached; the Eriswil, Station bus stop is just a few steps from the destination.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
