01/ Overview

The route

From the pilgrimage site of Luthern Bad, the trail crosses scenic heights before descending gently to the herb village of Hergiswil. Natural-surface paths, pastures and woodland accompany views across the Napf hills to the Jura range.

From the Luthern Bad, Dreilindenplatz bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at the Maria-Heilbronn pilgrimage church. The yellow-marked hiking trail leaves the pilgrimage site and climbs between meadows and patches of woodland. After just over one and a half kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,020 m; near Grausberg, views open up across the Napf hills to the Jura range.

The hike then continues with a long, gentle descent. Mostly following natural-surface paths, it crosses open pastures and repeatedly enters the forest, passing the Wisshubelhütten and continuing towards Hübeli. The route leads via Unterberg to Hintersagi, where there is a choice of two route variants. One of these can, if desired, be combined with the Milk, Herb and Cheese Trail.

From Hintersagi, the trail descends to lower elevations and reaches the first houses of Hergiswil bei Willisau. After around nine kilometres, the two-and-a-half-hour hike ends in the herb village; the Hergiswil LU, Dorf bus stop is just a few steps from the destination.

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
