Grenzpfad Napfbergland, Stage 3/6

The high-level hike with panoramic views leads in a southerly direction down from the Napf through coniferous forests and on gravel roads. Over typical wooden bridges and past geranium-festooned farmhouses, you reach Trubschachen in the heart of the Emmental.

The hike begins on the Napf, which, at just over 1,400 m, is also its highest point. The summit is the highest in the Napfbergland; close to the cantonal border, the mountain restaurant already stands on Bernese soil. The starting point is not directly served by public transport and lies around 1.2 km from the Mettlenalp (Napf) stop.

From the summit, the hiking trail initially leads to Restaurant Stächelegg before entering the forest. Crossing open ridges and wooded crests, the route continues eastwards in a steady succession of ascents and descents. At Champechnubel and near Grätliegg, it remains at altitude for a while longer before the long descent into the Emmental begins. Despite a total descent of 1,200 metres, the route also accumulates around 500 metres of ascent along the way.

In the final section, stretches of forest alternate with pastures, before the first houses of Trubschachen draw closer. After around 18 km and just over five hours, the hike ends in the village, only a few steps from the Trubschachen stop.
