Alpine Panorama Trail, Stage 20/29

Setting off from the lovely Schwarzsee lake, this route leads through the primeval landscape of Breccaschlund and into the jagged limestone scenery of the Gruyère Alps. From there, you will cross the relatively low-lying Euschelspass, carved out by glaciers, into Jaun. This leg ends in the only German-speaking village in the district of Gruyères.

From the Schwarzsee, Gypsera bus stop, the hiking trail initially leads to Schwarzsee. The lake, which covers around 0.5 km², lies in the Fribourg Pre-Alps; the shore and houses are soon left behind. The route climbs across meadows and pastures, with stretches of woodland providing shade along the way. The rocky Spitzflue forms a striking landmark above the valley.

The trail continues steadily up and down to the Stierenberg-Rippetli viewpoint. It then climbs once more. Below Euschelsflue, after around nine kilometres, the hike reaches its highest point at approximately 1,570 metres. Shortly afterwards, the Ritzli Alp mountain inn stands directly on the route, before the long descent to Jaun begins.

Towards the end, open Alpine pastures give way to woodland and the first houses. For the final few metres, the village stream accompanies the trail into the village. The destination is near the Jaun, Dorf bus stop.
