01/ Overview
The route
This circular route around the Schwarzsee lake in Canton Freiburg is located in the midst of wonderfully picturesque scenery. With it's impressive mountain panorama and glistening lake, the region is ideal for extended tours.
The roughly four-kilometre circuit begins at the Schwarzsee, Gypsera bus stop. The broad hiking trail initially crosses open meadows and soon reaches the wildlife observation and lookout tower. With a total elevation gain of around 50 metres, the route remains gentle. Even the highest point, at just under 1'070 m, is barely noticeable.
As the route continues, stretches along the shore alternate with open areas and short sections of woodland. Schwarzsee repeatedly comes close to the trail. Covering an area of around half a square kilometre, it forms the focal point of the hike. Rather than any sustained ascent, the route is characterised by gentle undulations and changing views of the water, forest and Fribourg Pre-Alps.
Towards the end, the trail once again passes through wooded terrain before returning to Schwarzsee. After a good hour, the circuit closes near the Gypsera bus stop. Its manageable length and modest elevation gain make it a pleasant hike for a short outing.
