01/ Overview
The route
Hollowed out by glaciers, the wild landscape of the Breccaschlund is both fascinating and mysterious. A circular walk, technically quite simple, leads from the Riggisalp, which overlooks the Schwarzsee, to the foot of some imposing cliffs. The return to the valley is punctuated with Alpine restaurants.
The 14-kilometre hike begins directly at the Riggisalp mountain station. The hiking trail initially crosses open pastures through the mountain landscape. After just over an hour, the Stierenberg – Rippetli viewpoint offers an inviting place for a break. The terrain then gradually becomes rougher, with the trail alternating between pastures and short stretches of woodland.
In the middle section, a mountain trail climbs through rockier terrain. Near Türmli, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'660 m. The long descent follows, initially across open slopes and later increasingly through woodland. Overall, around 480 metres of ascent contrast with just over 900 metres of descent, clearly defining the character of the hike.
Towards the end, Schwarzsee appears between the trees. The trail leads directly to the shore of the lake, which covers around 0.5 km², and continues into the village of Schwarzsee. After just over four hours, the hike ends at the Schwarzsee, Gypsera bus stop.
