Freiburger Voralpenweg, Stage 3/5

This straightforward walk connects the tranquil Schwarzsee lake with the wild Breccaschlund and the Euschelspass. Glorious sights along the way include the lake and woodland scenery and the views of the Gastlosen mountain range. The descent from the pass to Jaun takes another hour or so of walking.

The hike of just over four hours begins at the Schwarzsee, Gypsera bus stop, close to the shore of Schwarzsee. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail soon leaves the mountain lake, which covers around 0.5 km², and climbs between woodland and open pastures into the Fribourg Pre-Alps.

Further on, alpine pastures and rocky mountain slopes shape the landscape. The route climbs steadily, interrupted by short stretches of woodland. At the Stierenberg–Rippetli viewpoint, the panorama opens up across the pre-alpine terrain. The trail then continues uphill, reaching its highest point at around 1,570 m towards the end of the ridge.

Shortly afterwards, the route passes directly by Ritzlli Alp. From here, the longer descent to Jaun begins, initially across pastures and later once again through wooded slopes. On the final stretch, the Dorfbach accompanies the trail into the village. After a total of around twelve kilometres, the hike ends near the Jaun, Dorf bus stop.
