01/ Overview
The route
From the cultural ensemble in Altishofen, the hike leads through forests and across open uplands. At Bellevue, views stretch from the Säntis to the Bernese Alps.
From the Altishofen, Unterdorf bus stop, the route initially leads through the village. The Church of St. Martin, Altishofen Castle and the Kornschütte granary form the village’s defining cultural ensemble. Immediately afterwards, the route enters the Schlosswald and climbs steadily on the yellow-marked hiking trail.
Across open meadows and through further stretches of forest, the route continues towards Richenthal. The former spa recalls the history of the local Kneipp and hydrotherapy centre. After Innerfronhofen, the trail leads via Ärpolingen to Bellevue. In clear conditions, views extend from the Säntis to the Bernese Alps, with the Jura range also sometimes visible on the horizon.
In the final third, the route climbs near Isehuet to its highest point at around 730 m. It then leads via Totenboden, mainly through open, gently rolling countryside, down to Grossdietwil. The parish church of St. Johannes stands near the destination; after a little over three and a half hours, the hike ends at the Grossdietwil, Post bus stop.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
