01/ Overview
The route
While you are on this car-free sunny mountain terrace in the canton of Uri, the Lake Arni winter hiking trail is the perfect place to stroll along the lakeside. Winter hikers are enchanted by the breathtaking mountain scenery along this easy and level route.
The winter hike begins on the Arnialp at the Arnisee stop. Gasthaus Alpenblick stands right at the start, before the short circuit leads out into open terrain. With only around 30 metres of ascent and descent, the route remains gentle; the expansive landscape around the lake characterises the first section.
About halfway along, the route reaches the Arnisee at around 1,370 m. This mountain lake, 200 to 250 metres wide, lies within the municipality of Gurtnellen in the canton of Uri. From the lakeshore, the winter hiking trail climbs gently to its highest point at around 1,380 m. It then loses only a little elevation and continues through open terrain on the way back.
After just under two kilometres, the circuit closes at the Arnisee stop, immediately beside the starting point and Gasthaus Alpenblick.
