01/ Overview

The route

This easy hike takes you from Klewenalp to the pilgrim village of Niederrickenbach. Recharge your batteries in Maria Rickenbach, a natural high-energy zone. The hike offers wonderful panoramic views of the mountains and of Lake Lucerne.

The hike begins at the Klewenalp stop. Shortly after the start, the trail passes Klewenkapelle and emerges onto open meadows and pastures. Below the Klewenstock, it initially climbs only gently. After around 3 km, the highest point is reached near Höch Stand at just over 1'630 m.

A white-red-white waymarked mountain trail now takes over. The route continues across the Bärfallen with gentle ups and downs before the long descent begins. The open slopes gradually give way to forest. Among the trees, the trail loses altitude quickly and leads quietly towards the valley.

After a total of 7 km and just over two hours, the hike reaches Niederrickenbach. Shortly before the destination, the chapel of Hl. Maria im Ahorn stands beside the trail. The tour ends at the Niederrickenbach Dorf stop. With only around 150 metres of ascent but about 600 metres of descent, it primarily demands strong knees.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
