01/ Overview

The route

Short circular hike across alpine pastures and through woodland, with views of Lake Lucerne, a fire pit at Stollen and the striking profile of the Klewenstock.

The circular hike begins a few steps from the Klewenkapelle at Klewenalp mountain station. It initially crosses open alpine pastures before the mountain path enters the woods and begins to climb gradually. Between the trees, views open up over Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains.

There is also a fire pit at the Stollen viewpoint; according to the route information, firewood must be brought along. The route then climbs a little further, reaching its highest point at around 1,670 m. The cone-shaped Klewenstock stands away from the path but remains a defining feature of the landscape.

From Ergglen, the path descends through more open terrain. Barbecue and picnic areas offer places to take a break along the way before the circular hike ends after just under two hours near the starting point at Klewenalp mountain station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
