01/ Overview
The route
An almost level urban circuit along the signposted BärnParcours Altenberg: around four kilometres through residential areas, open spaces and woodland lead to Lorrainebad and back.
It is just under 300 m from the Bern, Kursaal stop to the start of the BärnParcours Altenberg. The walk follows the signposted urban running route and soon leaves the first houses behind. Open spaces and small stretches of woodland then shape the scenery. The marked hiking trail remains almost level; near Bawartenhubel, it reaches its highest point at around 500 m.
Meadows, woodland and city houses then alternate along the route. With barely 20 metres of ascent, there are no significant climbs. Towards the final third, the route passes directly by the Sauna Lorrainebad. Shortly afterwards, the Lorrainebad-Buvette lies right beside the route. After Lido Altenberg, the more densely packed houses of Bern reappear. After around four kilometres and just over an hour, the circuit ends at the starting point; from there, it is once again just under 300 m to the Bern, Kursaal stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
