01/ Overview
The route
Delightful hike along the River Aare, first through urban areas, then through one of Switzerland’s loveliest river landscapes. The renaturation of the river banks has brought great benefit. Worb Castle is seen from afar but is not open to the public.
The roughly 16-kilometre hike begins at the Bern, Bärenpark stop on the edge of the Old Town. The yellow-waymarked trail initially passes through residential areas before following the Aare for a short stretch. The city streets soon give way to paths through Dählhölzliwald and Elfenauhölzli. Fähribeizli, directly on the route, offers a place to stop for refreshments.
The landscape then opens up. Gently undulating, the hiking trail leads through meadows, fields and smaller settlements towards Allmendingen. This middle section is characterised by the alternation between open stretches and woodland. The final significant ascent begins at Langenloh.
Near Denteberg, the route reaches its highest point at around 665 metres. It then descends gently to Worb, where the four-hour hike ends at Worb Dorf railway station.
