01/ Overview
The route
A wooded circuit on the outskirts of Bern: the Bremer Loop runs through the Bremgartenwald and over the Gschuntnehubel, with little change in elevation.
The nearly five-kilometre circuit begins at the eastern starting point in Herrenschwanden, around one kilometre from the Herrenschwanden, Halenbrücke bus stop. Right from the start, the route enters the Bremgartenwald and climbs gently to the Gschuntnehubel. At around 570 m, this is already the highest point; there are no major differences in elevation anywhere along the circuit.
The trail then sweeps through the forest in broad curves. Around half of it follows marked hiking trails, while in between the circuit follows the separate signs for the running route maintained by the City of Bern Sports Office. Short, barely noticeable climbs alternate with level sections, without leaving the forest for long. After around one and a quarter hours, the route passes its lowest point on the final stretch before returning to the eastern starting point in Herrenschwanden.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
