01/ Overview
The route
Fourteen fountains, a short walk through historic Sempach and, finally, the lake: this leisurely circuit traces the history of the local water supply all the way to the shore.
From the Sempach Stadt, Meierhöfli bus stop, it is only a few steps to the fountain by the cemetery, opposite Apfli. This is the starting point of the roughly three-kilometre fountain tour through Sempach. Passing St. Stephan, the route leads between the houses into the historic town centre. The fourteen fountains include both historic and reconstructed installations. Fed by springs or the water supply network, they also serve as drinking water points.
Beyond the town centre, the surroundings open out into meadows and fields. The path climbs almost imperceptibly, reaching its highest point of around 530 m about halfway along the route. Some sections follow hiking trails, while others lie outside the marked hiking network. The route then passes the Kreuzkapelle before descending towards Sempachersee.
A flat final section follows the lakeshore. Covering 14.5 square kilometres, Sempachersee is one of the larger lakes on the Swiss Plateau. Passing the Seevogtei and close to the snack bar in the boathouse, the circuit leads to the fountain by the Seewasserwerk, the destination on the lake.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
