01/ Overview
The route
The Glögglifrosch Trail leads from the village pond into the wooded Pfarrtobel ravine. Small footbridges, sandy limestone rocks and waterfalls accompany the search for a highly endangered toad with a bell-like call.
The Glögglifrosch Trail begins at the village pond below Eich’s parish church. This short discovery trail is dedicated to the midwife toad, known locally as the Glögglifrosch because of its bell-like mating call. In Switzerland, this amphibian species is highly endangered.
Beyond the houses of Eich, the circular route enters the Pfarrtobel ravine. Small bridges and footbridges follow the village stream; sandy limestone rocks and waterfalls appear between wooded and open sections. Along the way, the trail provides information about the amphibians’ way of life and conservation, as well as the flora and fauna found along the stream. One unusual feature is that the male carries the eggs on its back.
Continuing uphill, the route reaches its highest point at just under 600 m near Bloseberg. It then descends back towards the village. Lake Sempach lies below Eich, around 250 m off the circular route. Passing the parish church of St. Laurentius, the trail returns to the village pond after just over half an hour.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
