01/ Overview
The route
Red marker stones bearing the Sempach lion point the way from the lake up to the Schlachtkapelle. Along the way, chapels, woodland and open uplands tell of the town’s history, legends and Habsburg past.
From the «Sempach Stadt, Meierhöfli» bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at Dreiangel. The route initially descends to Lake Sempach before passing through Sempach and by the Kreuzkapelle. Along the way, red marker stones bearing the Sempach lion evoke the town’s history, legends and Habsburg past. Beyond the houses, the path climbs through the Allmendwald and continues past Trutigen into meadows and pastures.
The St. Anna chapel stands on the open upland. From there, the route undulates gently towards the Wirtschaft zur Schlacht and the nearby St. Jakob Schlachtkapelle. At around 620 m, this is the highest point. Built in 1472/73, the chapel commemorates the Battle of Sempach in 1386 and is dedicated to St James the Elder.
From the heights, the path descends back into the valley, initially along the edge of the forest and then through open farmland. After Kirchbühl, where St. Martin stands on a hill above the lake, the route descends to the first houses of Sempach. The circuit ends at St. Stephan; the Meierhöfli bus stop is around 150 m away.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
