01/ Overview
The route
From Lake Sempach, the circular walk climbs to quiet forests and open uplands. Castles, chapels and Lucerne hamlets line the route back to Nottwil.
It is only a few steps from the Nottwil stop to the start. The route initially leads to Lake Sempach and briefly follows the Hofmattbach before climbing through meadows and pastures to the hamlet of Bühl. Shortly afterwards, the privately owned Schloss Tannenfels lies almost directly on the route.
Higher up, open countryside alternates with forest. The hiking trail continues to climb via Bluemeberg and through Sigerswilerwald and Gustibergwald. Near Homberg, the circular route reaches its highest point at around 720 m. It then descends through forest and across open countryside to Buttisholz.
Not far from the route stands the late-Gothic Schloss Buttisholz, built between 1570 and 1571 as the summer residence of a Lucerne family. The route then passes the Mariahilfkapelle and continues via Luternau to Untergattwil. It climbs gently once more before ending above Nottwil. The nearest stop, Nottwil, Büel, is around 400 m from the finish.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
